Please select a work of art by one of the following Renaissance artists. Study the work, learn about the artist, find out who or what inspired the work. Observe the work closely, noticing the details. Your job is to compose a poem based on the work of art. The poem should be at least 12 lines long.
Beginning poets often struggle with rhyming, because the rhymes sound forced and sing-songy (like a nursery rhyme), so for this assignment, do not rhyme. Instead, focus on creating mental pictures for your reader. Use comparisons (similes and metaphors). Make a list of different words and phrases that you like as you think about the work of art. Free associate (let your mind wander). Have fun!
Your poem is due Tuesday by 7:30 am. You should submit the poem using Googledocs (share it with me: brigham.dye@maeserprep.org). Along with your poem, please include a picture of the work of art that inspired it.
